Quiggin's Almond Marzipan

Lucky number 6! Since this is a (not) special ocasion, I decided to bring you something fancy: straight from the UK, Quiggin's Finest Almond Marzipan Chocolate Bar! A bar of their top quality marzipan (for those who don't know, marzipan is a paste made of almond and sugar) coated in rich dark chocolate.

The Packaging: this bar comes in a fancy looking brown plastic package with the Quiggin's logo (the Q looks like a bow, how cute is that?) It states the flavour and that Quiggin's has been making "quality confectionary sinse 1880"

The bar: The marzipan is thick and crumbly and the layer of dark chocolate is thin and crispy. The outside is plain, with no type of pattern, not very attractive.

The taste: If you're an almond lover you'll be thrilled. The marzipan has a strong almond flavour that is sweet but a little tart. The chocolate does not take away from the marzipan flavour at all, just adds another layer of yumminess to this bar. Really good, although I could not eat the entire bar in one go.

Rating: 8,2 out of 10
Overall, really good, tasty almond flavour. If you're an marzipan lover I really recomend Quiggin's Almond Marzipan Bar.

Broadway Chips

Review nr. 5! Second review of the day since I didn't have time to update the blog yesterday (sorry guys :c). This time I did something different, I went to Lidl (a really common supermarket here in Portugal), and found some unusual chips. This review is about those. I give you Rusti Chips- Honey and Mustard, Brodway flavour!
So, I never heard of Rusti Chips before, or Honey Mustard chips so I bought it (still have no idea why mustard is being associated with Broadway but okay...)

Packaging: Rusti Chips (not a great name guys...just sayin) come in a Pringles style tube. The front proudly shows the american flag, a city backdrop in red and the name of the product, as well as a yellow band stating that these chips are limited edition.

The chips: the chips looks just like pringles. Slightly curvy, yellow, covered with a gentle coating of salt. They have an intense smell of mustard.

The taste: I was highly disapointed with this chips. I like mustard and I like honey, but I do not like this chips. They do not taste at all of honey, they have a very intense taste of mustard and coriander or parsley that I do not find pleasant at all.

Rating: 2,5 out of 10 :(
Overall, not worth the buy. Save your taste buds for something yummier and skip "Rusti Chips".

Store: Lidl
Price: can't remember .-. sorryyyyy

Chocolate Pocky!

Review nr. 4 guys! This time I bring you a treat known and loved by everyone who (like me) likes japanese culture and food: Pocky!
For those of you who don't know what Pocky is, it's a light, crispy, bisquit stick covered in chocolate or some other flavouring.
If you live in Portugal or any other european coutry you may be familiar with the european version of pocky, Mikado, produced by LU. LU is actually owned by Glico, the japonese company that makes pocky.
Today I'll be reviewing the most common flavour of pocky: chocolate flavour!

Packaging: chocolate pocky comes in a red box with "Pocky" written in white and a drawing of the actual pocky sticks. Most of the things on the box are written in thaiwanese (yes, these japonese treats are actually produced in thaiwanese factories). Inside the box there is a silver package with around 20 pocky sticks.

Taste: How shall I describe this delight of angels? It is the most delishious cookie type of thing I've ever tasted. Defenitly my favourite snack ever, I could eat an entire box of those in one sitting (I try not to though .-.). The chocolate coating tastes amazing, japanese dark chocolate is sweeter and tastes completly different from european chocolate. The bisquit is very light and crunchy and not too thick for the amount of chocolate. Just freakin perfect! (I seriously could live off of this snacks guys .-.)

Rating: 11 out of 10 (c'mon guys it's over the top yummy!)
People, listen to me, this is serious, if you can buy pocky somewhere near you, DO IT! And get ready for your world to change and your mind to be blown. You will NOT be disapointed!

Mochi: Melon Flavour

Day 3! (Starting go get a real work routine going guys! Proud of my lazy self *o* self five!)
Today we'll be discussing mochi, ladies and gentleman! "What is mochi?" you may ask. Well, mochi is a japanese cake/dessert made out of glutinous rice flower. The rice is pounded into a chewy paste that is shaped into a ball and filled with some kind of flavouring.
My friends know that I've been fascinated by mochi and that I had a bad experience with it the first time I tried it...Basically, I was at an asian convention with some friends and Fii (making you famous girl, you better apreciate it XDD) decided to buy mochi. Well, the less expensive one was a purple "taro flavor" one, she got that one. Taro, for those who (like us at the time) don't know, is a root vegetable. I think you can already figure out that it tasted awful.
The texture though, was great, chewy and fun fun fun, like eatible playdough! ( I know that doesn't sound yummy but you get my point u.u) So I wanted to try the other, more expensive flavours of mochi. Today, I give you melon mochi!

Packaging: This pack of melon mochi comes with 3 mochi balls in a plastic tray, covered in clear plastic with green tips, a drawing of a melon and something in japanese (I don't know japanese, sorry .-.)

Appearance: The mochi is pale green, covered in flower, shaped like a ball and highly squeeshy (it's food though, so dont play with it u.u altough I kind of did...) Inside it has some white substance (possibly more flower) and melon jam.

Taste: The rice paste itself is slightly startchy but pretty much flavourless, the jam is yummy, sweet and really tastes like an actual melon. I personally think the rice paste to jam porportion isn't that well balanced out, once you bite into it you have too much paste and not enough jam so the taste is really mild and not that sweet. If that was corrected (I did see pictures of mochi online with a lot more filling) I'm sure they would be totally delishious.

 Rating: 8,2 out of 10
Over all, I did like it, it is way better than the taro one. The jam is the absolute best part, of course, really melon like. If you want to to try something new and enjoy different textures, I highly recomend it! If you don't like it you can just play with it LOL

Price: 2,95 euros (4,95 for a package with 8 mochi balls)

Coconut M&M's

Hey guys, day two of my food reviewings! (trying to commit to this blog XD it's harder than you think) So, today I'm gonna talk about an all-time favourite candy, M&M's! Who doesn't like M&M's right? They're small, highly addictive and delishious! Here in Portugal we have two types of M&M's, regular chocolate ones or peanut ones, and they're both pretty great. So when I found Coconut M&M's I decided to try them.

The package: at the store, coconut M&M's were sold in this little white platic bags. The front has the M&M logo with a picture of the M&M's and Ms. M&M, the green one. It clearly states the amount of calories per package as well as a little coconut advertising that they have artificial coconut flavoring.

The M&M's: Coconut M&M's are round and come in 3 colors: white, green and brown. Size wise, they're larger than the chocolate ones but smaller than the average peanut ones. They're candy coated like all M&M's and have coconut flavoured chocolate on the inside. (I bit half of one to show you the inside, I expected it to have little bits of shaved coconut in it, sadly it doesn't)

Flavour: As the package says, the coconut flavor is artificial so, sadly, there is no actual coconut on the M&M's. Texture wise I think it would be more interesting if the chocolate inside had little pieces of coconut mixed in. However, the artificial flavouring in these is quite good, noticeable but not too strong so it doesn't become sickening (like when you eat Bounty and by the beggining of the secong chocolate you get kinda sick? does that only happen to me?).

Rating: 7,5 out of 10
Over all, pretty good for coconut lovers, definitely recomend it. Still prefer the peanut ones though :p

Vanilla Cola

Today I went on a candy buying spree and decided to try vanilla flavoured Coca-Cola!
I personally love vanilla (warm vanilla cookies *drool*) and who doesn't like Cola? So when I arrived at the store (sweating and super thirsty, it was hot as hell today!) and saw they had cold vanilla Cola I just had to get it.

Inspecting the can: it's pretty similar to a regular Cola can, 330ml, red with the Coca-Cola logo in white; but it has a golden band on the top and it says vanilla next to a golden "vanilla swirl"?

The liquid: it looks exactly like regular Cola, brown and fizzy (the pic doesnt show any bubbles because I opened the can a few hours before I took the shot, sorry). It smells the same too.

The taste: as you must know, Cola usually has an extra sweet caramelly taste. Well, vanilla Coca-Cola tastes exactly like that but with a pleasant vanilla after taste, that is not even noticeable after a few sips. The caramel taste totally overpowers the vanilla. I was a little disapointed by this, I did not expect it to taste just like vanilla but I did wish for a stronger vanilla flavour.

Rating: 6,5 out of 10
Over all, it is a good drink, if you like Cola and vanilla give it a try. But if you can't find it in your country dont be disapointed, it's not that big of a deal. Just have a regular Cola, I will.
